Led by Sharon Ferris-Choat —Olympian, Sydney Hobart veteran, and round the world sailor, this immersive 9-night training expedition takes place aboard Awen, our high-performance IMOCA Open 60 racing yacht. You’ll train alongside a small crew, sailing in a range of conditions from inshore drills on Moreton Bay to full offshore exposure in the Tasman Sea. With a focus on safety, performance, and confidence-building, this program goes far beyond theory - delivering real passage experience and high-intensity drills in a supportive, professional environment.

Your journey begins and ends at Rivergate Marina in Brisbane, where you’ll kick off with pre-departure coaching, safety briefings, and crew introductions. From there, you’ll sail east across the Tasman Sea to Elizabeth and Middleton Reefs, the southernmost platform reefs in the world, rising dramatically from the 4,000-metre-deep ocean floor. These remote reefs provide a striking backdrop for honing offshore skills, before you turn back for the return leg toward the Queensland coast. Expect challenging weather systems, night watches, and long open-water stretches that will push your endurance and sharpen your seamanship.

The expedition concludes back in Brisbane with a full crew debrief and celebratory dinner. You’ll leave with new skills, real offshore miles, and the confidence to take on your next blue water challenge.
